Three years ago (January), my husband
and I adopted a little longhaired, approx. 10-year-old chihuahua
named ChaCha. She came with a red Christmas sweater and at the time
of adoption, she had very little hair and came with a little baggie
of pills to treat her heart failure.
I don't know if you remember her, but I thought I'd give you an
update because she is now the light of our life and we owe it all to
you. Her name is Lulu now, although we call her ChaCha occasionally
as an homage to her foster home. I got a job at a vet clinic and she
came to work with me every day, and believe me, people loved her
more than they loved me! I am currently in the vet school at Ohio
State, and she of course is with me. It took awhile for her to bond
with me but she is so completely attached to me now...Lulu was the
best decision of our life. She has had her meds tweaked several
times, but is actually in better shape than when I adopted her (yay).
Her coat is so thick and long that I have to have her clipped in
summers, and she never has breathing attacks like she used to. Of
course, she is also on a lot more medication than she was, so I know
I am only prolonging the inevitable...but it is completely worth it
and I advertise to everyone how rewarding senior dog adoption is!
(By the way, she also lost vision in one eye, and the other eye is
unfortunately going, but she honestly doesn't seem to mind as long
as I warn her when I'm behind her). I have attached a photo of her
doing what she does best (sleeping).
Thanks again for everything and keep up the good work,
Janelle and Vince Nerone
PS--In case you can't remember, her photo on Petfinder was her
standing on a desk next to a box of Cheez-its (or some cheese
cracker), in her red Christmas sweater.
